Word of the day: feisty

Today’s word comes from the release this morning of the latest version of the Ubuntu Linux Distribution, code named “feisty faun”. I like this word, not just because I like feisty things, but also because it is another example of a word that violates the i-before-e rule. HA! And for those of you who are keeping score here at lackhead.org, that’s the fifth word since I’ve started this blog that fits that bill: feisty, weird, deign, onomatopoeia and foreign.

But, as with anything else knowable, there is an entire Wikipedia page on this. Oh yeah, there are a lot of exceptions, even when you throw out the weird ones like oneiromancy (the practice of interpreting meaning from dreams, for those of you that don’t use the word daily). Note that oneiromancies breaks the rule twice!
