This is War

A blog that I have recently tuned into is John Cole’s Ballon Juice. In particular, he had a rather terse post concerning the fact that a number of right-wing bloggers were expressing outrage that the “liberal blogosphere” was drudging up a storm about the use of torture by the United States, but wasn’t as rigorous in complaing about the use of torture by Al-Qaida. John’s repsonse was:

It isn’t news because they are terrorists, you fucking simpletons. Yesterday, my cat scratched himself then shit in a box. The media didn’t report that, either.

Anyway, what I found totally and utterly fascinating was this post, and in particular, the YouTube links found within. I mean, the first link, Apache is totally in itself absolutely blogworthy, but the Hasselhoff-er-ific follow up as almost as mind blowing. And some people take drugs to alter their state of consciousness. Man, they could save a lot of time by just looking for stuff on YouTube.

So, for those of you with a curious and masochistic streak, I’ll save you some time and link to the videos strait up and stuff. First, everybody do the Apache:

Now, everybody sit back and try not to lose their lunch over this cover of “Hooked On A Feeling”:

Man, and you thought Pour Casses Avec Toi left an indelible mark on your brain. You may now go back to worrying about the fate of the United States economy, and try to pretend like the last 8 minutes of your life didn’t happen.

Pour casser avec toi

We watched this video in French class this week, as a means of learning the alphabet. I think I’ve watched it at least quatre cent vinght neuf times since then. I’ve even gone so far as to look into ordering the CD this came from, as an import from overseas somewhere. If anybody has a copy of this, please let me know as I’d be very willing to negotiate a deal that’d be mutually agreeable to us both.

Anyway, thanks to YouTube I can share this with all of y’all! Enjoy!

What if the Beatles were Irish?

I’ve kissed away a little more than a few minutes laughing to the many movies that Roy Zimmerman has put up on YouTube, but most of them have a political nature to them, and while funny, I’ve been trying to avoid politics lately so the ulcer in my optimism can heal. But in any case, this is so not political, and also so funny as to be good for the ulcer. So I’m sharing. :)

CéU

CéUYesterday on The World I heard a brief story on a new Brazilian singer/songwriter named CéU. After 18 trips around the sun she moved to New York City for a short stint, and lists The Roots, Bob Marley, and Erykah Badu as heavy influences. Her music is slow, chill, world beat type stuff, but like Seu Jorge, she doesn’t seem to suffer from the ubiquity of their genre. The subtle weaving of modern day mixing style and hip-hop flavors, plus some facet of her voice that I can’t quite put my finger on, all adds up to a something…something akin to a musical pheromone that transmits through the airwaves and says “tasty”. The chévre of the cheese world- not something you want to take a whole hunk of all at once, but something you take a little of and savor on your tongue, strong and smooth and just way good. Try her with a crusty bread and some wine, and wonder why we don’t eat like the French every day.

Ok, I have mentioned before that analogies or metaphors might be considered a hallmark of intelligence. Apparently they are also a sign of insanity. “She’s like a cheese??” Where does this crap come from?

Anyway, if my weird metaphor didn’t totally turn you off, you can check her out online, either that story on The World that I mentioned, or she’s got her own myspace page where you can listen to some tunes, dig up some info, etc.
