You are awesome! 5 years from original post and info is still golden!! Yesterday the tranny/clutch on my '03 Forester X was acting goofy and I realized the clutch/brake wasn't fully releasing; I could smell the burn up. Removed the feature as you described and works fine now [still needs a new clutch though, 129k miles is pushing it]. Took it for a quick mud/test run just to make sure. My 6yr old approved as waves of mud came flying up the sides!!

Sweet! Just had to get towed when mine froze up, but removed the spring after I remembered this lovely issue/cause and that helped temporarily (that was the fix on my old 87 XT). Now I know how make sure it stays off (was still periodically pulling the axle and causing problems, so it's jimmied to hold the axle till I can get the cable out of there). I have the exact same model/year, so this post was perfect! Thanks for posting this!

Thanks for posting! I had the same problem as Jon (commented Dec 2010 ^ ) about brakes that would stick on, turned out the return spring had weakened on the hill holder module so I disconnected it altogather! It never worked anyways, didn't even know it had such a thing. Too bad I put all new brakes and a master cylinder in before I found this :s

You saved my life :-) BTW, it works almost exactly the same way for JIRA as for Confluence. Simply search the connector tag and add the following fields (best with your proxy :-))

It's a pitty that this information couldn't be found in Atlassians documentation :-(

@lackhead Thanks for the response! That sounds like a fine approach to me. In the weeks since making the alteration I've never once regretted it. Though I haven't felt the zip-tie catch yet I would feel better knowing the whole cable was just gone.

@AdanA - a year or so ago I wound up just cutting the cable off altogether. The issue I ran into was that the cable, which would retract every time I pushed the clutch in, sometimes would catch on the zip-tie or something else there. Not that this is a big deal, but I would feel it every once in a while. So, one time when I was working on the car I just took a pair of dykes and just snipped the whole thing off. Now, this is a permanent solution, or at least you'll have to have the whole cable replaced if you do this and then decide you want to go back to having a HH clutch. But for me, well, I haven't looked back. ;)

I have strange sounds coming out of the left front wheel. First you can hear it during braking and you can hear a click when taking off (also in rear). With in a week you can hear it during steering?

The garage cleaned the brake a couple off times. The sound can be gone for about one week or six months.
Now it's back and I was thinking if it was the hill holder?
Any thoughts on that?

Wow, what a relief to be rid of that thing! Thanks to your article and pictures I dared to disable the Hill Holder on my '05 Forester yesterday. It went exactly as you described, up to and including the part where it was subsequently a joy to drive.

I was a little uncertain about my solution for zip tying the cable in place to keep it out of the way of other things. Would you be willing to post a picture of how you've done that?
